Working From Home With A Toddler

Published by under Work From Home

There are still things I have to learn as I work from home. I have to learn how to set a schedule not just to work but to spent time with my 2 year old during the day time when my other kids are at school. It is not easy at all to get my work accomplished when she is awake. So I am finding that I need to do my writing at night after she has gone to sleep or if I choose to do it in the day it has to be when she naps. I started this journey for several reasons. One of the main reasons was to be available for my family.

When I was working outside of my home for someone else they did not really care that I had children. I felt like a horrible mom when I had to decide between my job and my kids. That made me more determined to find a way out of the rat race. I wasn’t able to go on my first graders field trips and I had to watch my infants face as I dropped her off everyday at the daycare even though I was lucky enough for the daycare to be owned by my best friend. It torn me up and I would often pull into the parking lot of my job crying for having to leave them.

But now I am able to say that I have accomplished one of my goals and that is to work full time from home. Now I have to set more small goals to maintain my larger goal. I am steadily taking on new projects and I have to fit each one added into my ever changing schedule. Not only do I have to set a schedule for myself but I have to set one for my toddler as well. If I went by what she wanted to do everyday I would never get any work done. I am also luck that most of my work right now involves writing on the computer so I do not have to worry about outbursts from her, like her constant singing, laughing and crying. But I still need to be able to concentrate on my task. This is a work in progress…

Check out my section on books to see how I learn to manage and balance my time and work from home.

It is nothing but a “true blessing” to be able spend time at home with your children. Working from is not an easy thing to do, but it is well worth if it allows you more time with your loved ones. I did not have the opportunity when mine were small but I congratulate you on this blessing.
